What versions of my files will be streamed to my guests?

Original Files

Mixup will store your original files without applying any processing to it. You will be able to download and retrieve this very same file at any point time. Your guests will also be able to download it if you activate this option on your Mixup Players.

Streaming Files

Mixup wants your guests to be able to stream and listen to your productions as fast as possible and without a glitch. In order to do so, we have to encode your files in different formats in order to allow your guests to stream it under good or bad bandwidth situations. Here is how your files will be encoded for streaming depending on what type of files you upload.

  • Upload of a lossless format (wav, aiff)

    • We will save your original file. Untouched.

    • Depending on your original sample rate, we will encode a 16bits, 44.1khz or 48khz wav file version. We will create a 48khz version if you uploaded a 48khz, 96khz or 192khz version and stick to 44.1khz in any other case. This wav file will be used for HD streaming.

    • We will create a flac version of your HD streaming wav file. Some browser like flac. We like flac too as it is a lossless format and results in much smaller files than its wav version. It will allow your guests to 'stream HD' under average bandwidth conditions if their browser allows it.

    • We will create an mp3, Variable Bit Rate encoded at its slowest / best setting from your ORIGINAL file. It usually results in very good renditions that do not alter bass and super high frequencies too much. This is the file that will be used by default (especially on mobile) in order to allow your guests to play your files right away. They can always decide to switch to HD streaming if they think their bandwidth can take it. There will be 2 versions (48khz and 41khz) in order to match all mobile devices requirements.

  • Upload of a lossy format (mp3, aac and everything else)

    • We will save your original file. Untouched.

    • We will create an mp3, Variable Bit Rate encoded at its slowest / best setting. We have to re-encode your file in order to make absolutely sure your guests will stream an mp3 file encoded 'by us'. We found this is the only way to guarantee that all players will work. There will be 2 versions (48khz and 41khz) in order to match all mobile devices requirements.
